About Thread & Craft
Grown out of a genuine appreciation for Indian handloom textiles. Founded by Lakshmi Chivukula, we offer authentic weaves, direct loom sourcing, and slow fashion crafted with utmost care.
Appreciation Over Mass Business
Thread & Craft is a slow-fashion label shaped by Lakshmi Chivukula's belief that good fabric and meticulous stitching matter just as much as design. Sourcing directly from India's artisan heartlands, we consciously leave out screen and machine prints in favor of authentic, hand-woven cloth.
“Every garment begins with the fabric itself, followed by careful attention to fit, stitching, and enduring comfort.”
✦ Direct Loom Clusters ✦
Sourced Straight From Weaving Communities
Four Pillars of Thread & Craft
Direct Loom Sourcing
We visit weaving clusters directly across Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, and UP — eliminating middlemen to ensure fair pricing for both weavers and customers.
Zero Machine Prints
We consciously exclude synthetic screen and machine prints in favor of pure hand-block prints, natural vegetable dyes, and authentic handlooms.
Village Women Empowerment
We collaborate directly with rural women for bespoke hand embroidery, bringing work directly to their homes and supporting independent livelihoods.
Comfort & Pre-Washed Fit
Started with gentle organic cottons for children, our garments prioritize breathability, soft hand-feel, pre-washed comfort, and tailored fit.
Textile Arts We Preserve
How Thread & Craft Came to Be
Our story did not start in a corporate fashion studio. It began with founder Lakshmi Chivukula travelling to weaver homes in Madhya Pradesh and Telangana, fascinated by the rhythm of the handloom shuttle and the honest warmth of pure cotton.
What started as an effort to make comfortable, organic cotton apparel for young children grew into a dedicated label celebrating Indian handloom weaves. Seeing how hard it was for consumers to find genuinely unadulterated handloom without exorbitant retail markups, Thread & Craft bridged the gap by going straight to the looms.
Today, we continue to keep our production small, conscious, and deeply human. Every dress material, sari, and tunic in our collection is pre-washed, hand-finished, and crafted to be lived in with effortless grace.
